Barbados’ extraordinary collection of rare 17th Century English Iron Guns and the details of why and how they ended up in Barbados is chronicled in this fascinating historical book. The Barbados cannon collection is recognized internationally as the finest of such to be found anywhere in the world, with many of the guns very rare.
This publication details parts of a gun and its carriage, method and implements for loading and firing, types of ammunition and methods of identification. One hundred and twenty six of these make up the National Collection, belonging to Government and fifty-eight are in private hands. This is an achievement in itself, but also a most valuable contribution to the history of naval guns, and those installed in shore defences in the 17th century.
