Description

The GA-CDRC is a dedicated research centre within The University of the West Indies (The UWI) in Barbados. The Centre is well known for undertaking national level population studies that have underpinned evidence-based policy interventions on diverse public health issues affecting Barbados, the wider Caribbean and small island developing states more generally, including stroke, heart attack, cancer, diabetes, asthma, eye disease, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, and mental health. In 2017 the Centre was named in honour of retiring UWI Chancellor, Professor Sir George Alleyne, noted Barbadian physician, UWI scholar, and Director Emeritus of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO).
